Welcome to the Next Generation Science Exemplar System for Professional Development, or NGSX. NGSX is a web-based PD environment designed to engage teachers in working with the practices and disciplinary core ideas in the National Research Council's Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards.

The Next Generation Science Exemplar (or NGSX) professional learning system is a unique learning environment designed to connect learners to a multi-faceted web-platform — with a wide range of digital (video and print) resources, guided activities, and interactivity with colleagues.  NGSX provides a unique, image-rich context for combinations of K-12 teachers, administrators, science coaches, and higher education pre-service faculty.  Together, in face-to-face study groups, NGSX participants explore the major ideas found in the NRC Framework and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), developing tools and strategies to take this new vision back into their classrooms. NGSX also serves as a research site to collect data on 3-dimensional learning and the enactment of that learning in classrooms.  Finally, NGSX has developed a learning pathway for facilitators.  This pathway is designed to support teacher leaders, instructional coaches, and PD providers who want to become NGSX study group facilitators in their district or state.  A focus on preparing facilitators to lead NGSX study groups in districts and states throughout the United States is proving to be a much needed model of peer-leadership in PD to bring the Framework and NGSS to scale.
